Biography

Ruby Tuesday Tyler was born in Barstow, California on April 12, 1986. Her parents, Jack and Lydia, had been hesitant about having a child, but when Ruby arrived safely and soundly they were overjoyed. Jack worked as an auto mechanic in a shop that he would later inherit from his uncle Martin, and his wife Lydia was a homemaker who also worked part-time as a secretary in a doctor's office. Jack's job often had him working late hours, but he made as much time as he could for his wife and daughter, and the Tyler family was a generally happy and functional one. Their one sadness was that Lydia was never able to get pregnant again, but Ruby never seemed unhappy with her lack of siblings. She was a sociable child who made friends easily, though she tended to gravitate more toward boys than other girls. It was somewhat worrying to her mother, who had been looking forward to rearing a little princess, but Lydia loved and accepted her rough and tumble daughter just the way she was.

As she grew up, Ruby became more and more of a tomboy. She would rather play sports than Barbie dolls, and by the time she was in high school, she was a solid athlete who spent most of her free time rough housing with the boys. At fourteen, she started working part-time as a cashier in her father's auto repair shop, and she discovered a love of working on cars. For her fifteenth birthday, her father bought her a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible and told her to get to work on it if she wanted to have it on the road by the time she was old enough to get her license. Sure enough, by the time she turned seventeen, the car had been fully restored, and Ruby christened her new ride Layla - because every good car needs a name, right? Once she took possession of Layla, Ruby started riding around town on weekend nights with her friends, drinking and smoking and occasionally getting into minor trouble with the law. Her parents were disappointed in her, but Ruby loved the freedom that came with having her own car and she was determined to carve out her own path.

That all changed once Ruby graduated from high school in 2004. She didn't feel like going to college, but she did want to travel, so she packed up some clothes and food, made sure her laptop and CD collection were in the passenger seat, and took off from Barstow. Her intention was to drive across the country for awhile, deciding that she would settle down when she felt like she had a sign that she was in the right place. The sign ended up being a blown trans-axle just outside of Mobile, Alabama, and so that was where Ruby opted to stay. She spent a few months moving from place to place before she finally found an apartment that she liked and could afford, and got herself a job as a mechanic in the city. Though it's pretty much an all-male workplace, Ruby fits right in with the rest of the guys and absolutely loves what she does for a living. She briefly dated one of her co-workers, Nathaniel Moore, but it didn't take them too long to figure out that they were better off with a strictly platonic relationship. Ruby has had other short-lived flings while in the city, and doesn't seem to plan on settling down anytime soon.

Ruby's likes her music loud, her liquor hard, and her cars big. Ruby won't take shit from anyone, and will give as good as she can if confronted with a fight. She's been in more dangerous situations since leaving Barstow, but so far she's managed to take care of business and avoid getting seriously hurt. Her body carries a few scars, but nothing that gets in the way of doing what she loves. On her downtime - or when she needs money - Ruby enjoys playing pool and various card games. She's pretty good at both, at least in that she wins more often than she loses. Occasionally she does hustle pool, pretending to be worse at it than she actually is, and it's gotten her into trouble several times with bouncers and the people she's playing against. She has managed to keep herself from getting arrested, and is still the wild girl that left Barstow six years ago. Ruby's style is very laid-back, preferring jeans, tee shirts, and sneakers to anything else. She can't remember the last time she wore a dress, has no concept of how to walk in high heels, and tends to avoid situations that require dressing up. On the whole, Ruby is very comfortable in her own skin, and is quite confident with who she is and what she's doing with her life.
